What are the differences?

AAA is our entry tier: the cheapest way to have the look of an iconic watch on your wrist. For 100 to 200 euros you get the silhouette, the colors and the overall character of the original, meant for anyone who wants the appearance without the investment. It sits deliberately in the tier below our BP version (250 to 400 euros, the reliable daily wearer) and well below SUPER (700 to 1200 euros, the 1-to-1 super clone). Where BP and SUPER recreate a specific model down to the smallest details, AAA aims for the recognizable impression from a distance. Be honest with yourself here: this is a replica that convinces at arm's length, not a piece that holds up to an expert's eye or a loupe. Anyone who wants the latter should look at BP or SUPER. Anyone who simply wants to wear the style for little money is exactly right with AAA.

The exterior

The exterior of an AAA gives away its price class in the details. The case is usually 316L steel, sometimes even gold-plated, which makes the watch feel noticeably lighter than the original. That weight is the first big tell: pick up a genuine one and there is a density and balance to it that an AAA does not reach, it feels a touch too light and too hollow on the wrist. The case finishing looks tidy from a distance, but the crispness of the brushing, the transitions and the polish on the flanks are softer and less carefully done than on BP and SUPER. The biggest details to watch for: the fonts on the dial, the engraving on the crown and case (shallower, less sharp), the tick and resistance of the rotating bezel (feels looser), and above all the date window. The cyclops magnification above the date is often off on an AAA, whereas SUPER properly reproduces the correct 2.5x magnification. The lume is also weaker on an AAA in both color and glow duration. In a photo or at arm's length the whole thing looks convincing; under a loupe or next to a genuine one these points stand out.

Inside an AAA sits a cheap Chinese automatic movement, for example a Miyota or an unbranded clone of it. It is an automatic, so it runs on the motion of your wrist and ticks with a sweeping seconds hand, exactly the feel you expect from a mechanical watch. The limit lies in the accuracy and the durability: an AAA movement runs less precisely than the original and can start running worse over time, more deviation per day, more sensitive to shocks and wear. The power reserve is basic and not tuned to the specifications of the real caliber. This is exactly where our higher tiers pull away. BP uses better clone movements, sometimes a modified Seagull or Asian movement. SUPER goes furthest with a cloned caliber, for example a clone of the Rolex 3235/3186 movement with the same architecture and roughly 70 hours of power reserve. With AAA you are not paying for that interior: you are paying for the look, with a working but simple heart inside it.

BP is the mid-tier in our three-layer model and, for most buyers, the smartest place to start. The name refers to the Bao Ping / Best-version factories: workshops that do not generically imitate a look, but seriously and deliberately reproduce one specific model. That is the heart of what sets it apart from the 100 to 200 euro AAA entry layer. Where AAA delivers the silhouette look for little money, BP, priced at 250 to 400 euro, is built to be worn every day and to pass the gaze of ordinary people effortlessly. It is the layer for anyone who does not want a throwaway look, but a watch that convinces on the wrist, runs reliably and still holds up after months of wear. Above BP sits SUPER (700 to 1200 euro), the super clone that mirrors it one to one right down to the inside. BP deliberately sits just below that: 90 percent of the conviction, at less than half the price.

The result: the case feels more mature and denser on the wrist, not the light, hollow feel that gives an AAA case away. The bezel, the dial printing and the lume are clearly improved. Fonts sit crisp and in the right place, the indices are neatly finished, and the lume gives a believable glow instead of a faint, quickly fading shimmer. On most points it holds up. Be honest about the limit, though: under a loupe or through a true expert, small deviations stand out. The lume color can be a fraction off, the crown engraving is not always perfect down to the last hair, and the case thickness can differ minimally. The cyclops magnification is better than on AAA, but not guaranteed to be the exact 2.5x that SUPER does achieve. For daily wear under normal eyes that is no problem: it comes down to details you only notice when you look for them deliberately and from very close up.

Often that is a modified Seagull or Asian automatic movement that has been seriously reworked to come closer to the accuracy and power reserve of the original. In concrete terms that means a more stable rate that does not drift off within weeks, and a power reserve that lets the watch comfortably bridge a day or a night off the wrist. You feel it in use too: the second hand sweeps more smoothly, winding via the rotor feels smoother, and the rate stays reliable over time. Important to know where the limit lies: BP does not clone the exact in-house caliber of the original. That detailed one-to-one movement, for example a clone of the Rolex 3235 or 3186 caliber, is precisely what sets SUPER apart. BP aims at reliability and daily dependability, not a mirror of the inside.

SUPER is our top tier, the super clone that specifically aims to match the original right down to the inside, so closely that it is virtually identical to it. Where AAA delivers the look and BP is the reliable daily wearer that passes the scrutiny of ordinary people, SUPER is the tier that dares to place itself next to a genuine example, on the table, under the loupe, without the difference jumping out at you. For 700 to 1200 euros you no longer get an approximation but a 1-to-1 execution: the right dimensions, the right finishing and, crucially, a cloned caliber instead of a generic movement. This is deliberately a replica at the highest attainable level.

On the outside, SUPER is where the small details stop being giveaways. The case is made of correct 904L steel, the same type of stainless steel the original uses, with the dense, slightly warmer sheen you never achieve with gold plating or standard 316L. More important still: the dimensions are right to the millimeter. Case thickness, diameter and the lug-to-lug (the distance from horn tip to horn tip) are to specification, so the watch sits on the wrist exactly as it should. The dial printing is razor sharp and at the right depth, the rehaut engraving (the ring inside the crystal) and the crown engraving are correct, and the cyclops over the date window magnifies exactly 2.5x. The lume is right in color and glow duration. Even the bezel feels good: the sound and the resistance when turning it sit at the right level.

Instead of a generic Chinese automatic movement (AAA) or a modified Asian caliber (BP), what sits here is a cloned caliber: a 1-to-1 reproduction of the original movement, for example a clone of the Rolex 3235 or 3186. That means not only the same look through a sapphire caseback, but the same internal architecture: the bridge shape, the construction and the operation match the real caliber. That also comes with the corresponding power reserve of around 70 hours, so you can set it aside for a weekend and it is still running on Monday. As a result the accuracy is closer to the original and the running behavior is more stable and reliable over time than the cheaper clone movements. This is a replica movement, not an original Swiss caliber, but within the world of super clones this is the highest attainable there is.
